Will diamonds beat up rubies? No. The tension we are referring to is created by the pressure of platinum places on a diamond to keep it in place. What are tension settings? Tension setting is a highly specialized type of ring setting that leaves the diamond practically suspended in mid air, allowing light and the breeze to flow through the diamond. A true tension setting does not have any metal underneath the diamond. You can supply your own stone for tension setting rings if they are hard enough. Choosing the right setting is important because you will look at your ring over a million times for the rest of your life.
You may believe that there is a greater chance to chip the stone in tension setting. Its chance of falling out or chipping is actually less than that of a traditional setting. If set properly it should last a lifetime. Of course, you should ensure tension set ring like you would any other valuable investment.
GelinAbaci is a master of tension settings. It takes superb skills to make a ring that applies over 80lbs of pressure to hold the diamond in place so that as much light as possible is able to pass through the ring from all sides. A ring can be created and encrusted with micro pave diamonds, or the setting can be as sleek as ice after it’s resurfaced by the Zamboni. They chase the art of ring design to the edge of physics and the phoenix of beauty.
Designer Chris Ploof who creates “Art for Your Hand” also uses tension settings in his Mokume Gane collection. The tension settings are fun and as durable as any other custom made ring. Each tension set ring has to be fit perfectly to your finger, thus every piece is custom made. “The best discoveries can come from the biggest mistakes. Impossible is only a temporary condition,” declares Chris Ploof. The inventive designer loves to use unique materials, like rare meteorite, to make the ring special. Some believe that the meteorite, which is from broken asteroid fragments, have special powers. The power also lies in the passion and thought that goes into every ring. You must go to a reputable designer because the tension setting process is tough to master.
A wedding band or engagement ring with tension reflects the powerful force of love. It’s amazing how tension set rings allow you to see the entire shape of the diamond so that you can marvel in its size. You may even be tempted to use the superior sparkle to blind the envious when you show it off!

As online shopping continues to grow, consumers are becoming more and more active when it comes to researching their rings. Just a simple Google search provides a wealth of information right at your fingertips. The problem, though, for some people is that Google provides too much information, sending you from one link to another and leaving you scratching your head. Luckily, diamond and jewelry experts have been turning to Squidoo to help curious beginners.
Squidoo is a site that allows members to create a single custom page. On this page, jewelry businesses and experts can write whatever they want, whether it’s about colored diamonds, princess cuts or different settings. Everything you ever wanted to know about engagement jewelry can be found in one simple search, which eliminates the problem of “trial and error” type searching. For example, Novell Design Studio has penned several helpful Squidoo pages. Here’s a great one about choosing the right ring metal. They also have others. Convenient, indeed!
